WORK BIRDING
I'm very lucky to be one of these people that work outside and can enjoy nature whilst I work. But anyone I think can do abit of birding wherever you are even in a office. You take 5 minutes looking out the window at lunch or 5 minutes on your fag break and you'll be amazed what you see. During my fun raising stint with work in Plymouth Town Centre during a busy Christmas shopping morning I saw Pied Wagtail, Starling, Blue Tit, Robin and even Goldcrest. There are birds there if you just look for awhile .. Give it a go and you'll be suprised what you see. Also remember if you haven't already make sure you have food out for the birds. It's not as cold as last year but the birds are still happy for abit of extra food. Back to birdwatching at work i'm very lucky to have a variety of species around the grounds during winter. I have a feeding station set up so I can view the birds when i'm having my lunch. Species so far are Blue,Great,Coal, Long Tailed Tit, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, House Sparrow, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Starling and the occasional Bullfinch.
Around the field areas there are Redwing,Fieldfare & Meadow Pipit. Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel are seen regulary. Best two ever birds I've seen at work has to be a Hoopoe and Waxwing. Quite a year this year for birds at work.
AND IN OTHER NEWS
I have been learning at work recently how to ring our wild injured owls we get in and rehabilitate back into the wild under the guidance of Mark Grantham. If you don't no much about ringing or the B.T.O (British Trust Ornithology) click here. I am also going to be doing some of this "out in the field" so to speak which I'm very much looking forward to but I have alot to learn. Will keep you updated on how I get on.
